With today’s economy, employers are challenged with reducing expenditures while maintaining revenues to their financial bottom lines. The impact of costs to corporations with rightsizing, downsizing, outsourcing and reduction in workforce has put the occupational health professional in a position of proving his/her worth for future existence within the company. One must be able to “talk the talk” and “walk the walk” as roles expand to incorporate a business mindset. This presentation will focus on the occupational health professional as a business asset. A review of basic business terminology and an example of a successful start-up occupational health practice will be reviewed. The “take-aways” will include practical strategies for implementation within an organization in proving individual/business worth and qualities of being a successful business leader.
