Congratulations to Joyce Hexum RN on passing the COHN-S exam!

Joyce Hexum achieved the rank of Certified Occupational Health Nurse—Specialist (COHN-S) after sitting for the American Board of Occupational Health Nurses (ABOHN) national certification exam in occupational health nursing in March of this year (2019).  Joyce chose this professional path in 2016, after a 30 year career in emergency, acute and chronic care, and in positions ranging from staff nurse to hospital department head.  She is delighted to be at Corelle Brands, located in Corning, New York as their Senior Occupational Health Nurse.  And, as a lifelong learner, she appreciates the challenges and opportunities that advancing the health and wellness of Corelle employees offers.

As a 24/7 glass manufacturing operation, Corelle Brands has a dynamic work environment.   Joyce’s role is critical to ensuring the welfare of Corelle’s team. Her extensive background in emergency medicine and Medivac nursing, particularly in Alaska’s isolated rural areas, required autonomy, critical decision making skills and fast action. Her experience well-prepared her to respond effectively to whatever health care challenges arise at Corelle.  Joyce has found occupational nursing to be uniquely challenging and fulfilling.

Joyce’s career shift has been additionally rewarding because of the collaborative support and guidance of fellow Occupational Health Nurses across the Finger Lakes region and New York State. She is a member of her local chapter, the Finger Lakes Association of Occupational Health Nurses (FLAOHN) , as well as her state chapter,  New York State AOHN, and the national chapter,  AAOHN, and is grateful to her professional colleagues for their warm welcome. She would like to thank Patti Aronson, Past President of the FLAOHN chapter,  in particular, for her mentorship.
