POSITION SUMMARY 

The Occ Health Nurse Practitioner is responsible for managing a comprehensive and well-integrated medical department in support of organizational business goals. The NP will ensure that employees receive optimal evaluation and treatment for injuries and/or illnesses that arise because of, or in the course of, work activities. The person in this role will assist in the prevention of employee injuries and illnesses and promote employee wellness and safety. As the NP, you will work in conjunction with the Occ Health Physician to manage occupational injuries and illnesses and serve as medical and health information resource for employees.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Medical management of occupational injuries including in-house evaluations, treatment and referrals as required
  • Report injuries and illnesses to applicable insurance and regulatory agencies as required by law
  • Provide medical case management for employee occupational and non-occupational illnesses and injuries to facilitaate early return-to-work
  • Leave Management Administrator for the various medically-related employee leave programs including: WC, PFL, FMLA, STD, LTD, and Bonding
  • Pre-placement medical evaluation and assessment of physical abilities to ensure applicant fitness-for-duty to meet the requirements of the applied-for position
  • DOT physicals for Yard and Shuttle Drivers and management of DOT random drug and alcohol testing program
  • Training Security for DOT and Non-DOT drug and alcohol testing of employees relative to for-cause and random drug and alcohol testing programs
  • Training First Responders in CPR, First Aid, and OSHA-mandated blood-borne pathogen protection, as well as Environmental Services in blood-born pathogen protection
  • Coordinate and administer the Respirator Fit Test Program in conjunction with SH&E for OSHA compliance
  • Administer forklift fitness-for-duty medical compliance program for 250+ employees at a minimum frequency of every three years - more frequently depending on medical condition(s)
  • Manage and administer annual influenza vaccination program to reduce illness absence impact to the business
  • Ergonomics evaluations - assessing work sites and making appropriate ergonomic and bio-mechanical recommendations
  • Medical emergencies - respond, assess and manage emergency medical situations; assist Security on off-shift situations
  • Maintain highest level of confidentiality of medical information and maintain medical record security at all times. Meet all HIPAA and ADA requirements
  • Maintain up-to-date OSHA log, DOT physical exam, FT physical, hearing test, fit test, safety glass, budget, leave, modified duty and medical records
  • Maintain currency with federal, state, local, and company compliances (i.e. DOT, blood born pathogen, hearing conservation, respiratory protection, hazwhopper, ADA, FMLA, etc.)
  • Conduct drug testing and physical testing for new hire pre-employment assessments
  • EDUCATION, LICENSES AND EXPERIENCE: 
  • Registered Nurse and Nurse Practitioner license
  • Nurse Practitioner Specialty Certification
  • 5-10 years in Occupational Health or an industrial setting preferred
