Objectives:

Responsible for the development and administration of efficient and professional operations of occupational health services in accordance with company policies, practices, procedures, and applicable regulations to achieve the desired goals and objectives. Assist with all aspects of health services staffing, competency, processes, training, customer service, and quality improvements.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Evaluate and treat all injuries and illnesses in an efficient and professional manner within the scope of practice and consistent with clinical nursing guidelines.
  • Case Management:  Manage all cases to facilitate productivity, assuring appropriate care and return to work to includes workers’ compensation, short- and long-term disability cases
  • Responsible for assuring the appropriate access and utilization of healthcare services.  Guide and direct all referrals to outside healthcare providers and services.
  • Assure and oversee compliance with regulatory requirements related to clinical operations.
  • Assist with the accident investigation program to identify root cause analysis of all incidents and near misses.
  • Assist departments with identifying, evaluating, and implementing accommodations and return to work options for workers with restricted duty.
  • Oversee delivery of the required physical evaluation programs and services to meet regulatory requirement; such as OSHA, Department of Transportation, CDC, etc.
  • Responsible for securing and developing all records, equipment, and programs related to occupational health services.
  • Collaborate with outside resources for program development, including but not limited to: healthcare providers, third-party administrators, legal advisors, regulatory agencies, other site OHS personnel, etc.
  • Participate on the ergonomic team to assess jobs and provide input regarding ergonomic improvements.
  • Manage the site’s First Aid Response Team to ensure required training and appropriate shift coverage requirements are maintained.  
  • Administer the company’s Drug-Free Workplace Program.
  • Assess healthcare needs, then implement and manage healthcare programs to improve health and facilitate return to work, maintain worker medical files.  Develop and implement site Wellness Programs and Health Care initiatives.
  • Collaborate with Environment, Health, Safety and Sustainability, site Operations, and Human Resources to develop protocols, programs, and services by providing content expertise.
  • Contribute in the design of controls for injury prevention and health surveillance related to actual and potential hazards in the work environment.
  • Identify primary, secondary, and tertiary prevention and health promotion strategies to optimize health of the population.
  • Participate in rotating off hours/ on-call occupational health related responsibilities for the site

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent and active New York State license as a registered nurse
  • Basic understanding of Federal and State regulations applicable to occupational health, as well as environment, health and safety
  • Ability to work with a team &/or independently
  • Ability to make independent nursing judgements, perform basic physical assessments, problem solve and have strong time management skills
  • Strong computer, verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to prioritize work assignments

 

Preferred Skills/Qualifications:

  • 2-3 years of experience in occupational health nursing &/or case management
  • Experience in community health, ambulatory care, critical care or emergency nursing
  • Certifications in occupational health nursing, case management and basic life support
  • CPR Instructor certification
  • NIOSH (spirometry) & CAOHC (hearing conservation) certification
