Spring is almost here and the masks are finally coming off. We are all looking forward to the end of the COVID pandemic and hoping it's near! Nurses House is still receiving applications from nurses affected with COVID-19, although they are fewer and farther between. We are grateful to organizations like ANF, Johnson & Johnson and the Loews Corporation whose generous donations have helped fund the majority of our COVID grant requests to this day. So far this year, Nurses House has provided $71,515 in aid and $29,046 of that was distributed to guests facing complications from COVID. Last month, Nurses House held our "Have a Heart for Nurses in Need" campaign and raised over $7,000! Individuals made a donation to honor a nurse for Valentine's Day and send them an e-card. Nurses House selected two of the honorees to receive a swag bag full of goodies. We are grateful to our sponsors - New York State Nurses Association, the Alpha Upsilon, Delta Pi and Tau Kappa-At-Large Chapters of Sigma Theta Tau and the National League for Nursing, for their support of the campaign. Congrats to the winners and thanks to everyone who donated and for "Having a Heart" for our colleagues in need. Although we are seeing a decline in COVID applications we are also seeing a rise in applications from nurses facing other serious medical issues. We hope to be able to assist the numerous nurses who come to us this year and can't do it without your help. See below to learn more about our upcoming Nurses Week campaign, Dolphins for Nurses, which allows you and your co-workers or colleagues to host a fundraiser for Nurses House during Nurses Week, either in person or virtually. In addition, nominations are now open for our 2022 Dolphin Award. See below for information on how to nominate an individual or group for this year's award.

Thank You Notes from Grant Recipients 2022 The thank you notes we receive regularly from those we've helped truly make our work worthwhile. Below are a few of the notes we've received so far this year, to show you how much your help means to those who come to us. "I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for this generous gift. It came at a time when I was feeling so scared and depleted. It provided a safety net for me and my family. It warms my heart to know there are people working to support nurses like me. In such trying times as a nurse I am filled with gratitude that someone helped me. I look forward to the day I am in a better position and am able to give back to Nurses House." -RN, Nurses House Guest "I sincerely thank you for the assistance you gave me during the height of the corona pandemic. I tested positive on April 2, 2020 and was off from work for three weeks. For a moment I thought my life was coming to end and my children were even more scared than I was. My finances were in shambles and then you came along and brightened my life and put a big smile on my face with a $1000 check. I once again thank you for your help. May the good Lord continue to guide your organization so that you can continue to help others who will be in need at one time or another in their lives." -RN, Nurses House COVID Fund Grant Recipient "Thank you so much for your generous gift to support my family during this difficult time. I cannot tell you how relieved I was to send in a check for six months of mortgage payments. We are certainly able to breathe a bit easier. My husband continues to struggle with COVID recovery. As of now, it does not look as if he will be able to return to work. However, I know that we are more fortunate than many. I have been able to return to work, mostly full time. Again, thank you for your compassion and generosity. Stay safe! - RN, Nurses House Guest "I am writing to express my sincere gratitude for the rental assistance grant I received. Although it had a specific dollar amount attached, I truly mean it when I say the relief you brought was priceless. It lifted a huge burden. Thank you for taking action and creating the fund to help nurses. I have spent most of the pandemic on the front lines, caring for COVID patients. Over the last 2 years we have often been called heroes and praised for our work, yet these words feel hollow when there is no action behind them, which makes this fund so meaningful. I am still suffering with long haul COVID symptoms and am unable to return to work. Things have been very difficult financially, so again, my sincere thanks for the assistance." - RN, Nurses House Guest
